Citrus Celebration: Bright Fall Hues at Black Butte Ranch

Julia and Jack’s love story began in California—at Santa Clara University, to be exact. But it was the pair’s eventual relocation to Seattle that inspired them to settle on Oregon, a meaningful midpoint between their past and future, for their nuptials.

On a cool October day, Julia and Jack exchanged vows at Bend’s St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, then celebrated with a bright, floral-forward reception at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon, where fresh, citrusy shades of tangerine and lemon created the perfect autumnal aesthetic. Arrangements featured blooms and greenery that represented their relationship and its multi-state moments, including poppies (the official state flower of California), olive branches and kangaroo paw, layered with delphinium (native to the PNW) and cottage roses. The fall palette continued throughout: Julia’s bridal party donned shades of cinnamon and eggplant, while the couple’s vintage getaway car offered a cheery pop of bright orange.

Tablescapes featured a combination of bud vases and lush meadow arrangements, while the ceremony’s pew florals and large statement pieces found new life at the reception. A final flourish was the single-tier wedding cake, adorned with even more vibrant florals, which just so happened to match the dainty orange bows tied around the couple’s wine glasses.
