For Ricky and Astrid, what began as a fortuitous swipe right turned into dancing the night away, sharing a first kiss underneath the stars and eventually going on a second date hiking through the Tillamook State Forest. After an unexpected downpour, the pair ventured to a thrift store near the coast in search of dry outfits. And it was the coast where they spent the rest of their date, walking along the shore and relishing their newfound love.

The couple’s whirlwind romance (including adopting a cat) led to an elopement at Cannon Beach, where they opted for a relaxed, nontraditional celebration that reflected their values—from thrifted attire to collaborating with queer-owned businesses—and featured details inspired by the quiet magic of the sea.

“The day wouldn’t have been complete without the ocean,” says photographer and officiant Darla Maxine. “Hand in hand, running along the shore, laughing as the waves crashed around them, [they were swept] into a moment that felt wild, free and entirely their own.”

Floral designs featured locally grown blooms that echoed the softness and fluidity of the waves, while an elegant, draped tablescape was set amid the sand with Haystack Rock as the perfect backdrop. “If you’ve ever dreamed of a peaceful day—free of pressure, timelines or guest list dilemmas—just do it and elope,” Maxine says. “It’s more than okay to celebrate your love in the way that feels true to you.”
