Among the many great discoveries I made at the Vintage Wedding Show a few weekends ago (Brenna Scarrott makeup, AlexSandra's vintage gowns, Eye Design Studio custom invites, Risa Torres vintage event stylist) was Scott McNamara, wedding photographer and recent Portland transplant. But to look at his images, you would never guess he was new to the PDX style.
Calling himself a "Purveyor of Different" is no misnomer or hyperbole. He blends a vintage feel with a modern irreverence to capture evocative portraits (seriously, you'll look like the star of your own fashion spread) and those candid, unexpected special moments with a curious, creative eye.
Scott includes a pre- or post-wedding shoot with his packages, which you should absolutely take advantage of. It's obvious that he makes the brides he works with feel utterly gorgeous, bringing out their personalities in each shot–especially during the "Alternative" shootswhere the white wedding dress often contrasts with the surprising settings he discovers (he told me about a junk yard in Boring that he can't wait to use).
Considering the way he ignores the "rules," isn't afraid to try new things, and avoids being cookie cutter like it's the plague, I couldn't believe Scott (and his wife) just moved here from Florida in December. He's obviously been a Portlander at heart for a long time. It will be interesting to see how the Oregon settings and PDX brides and grooms inspire him.
