Shelby and Z first met while working at a tasting room in Vancouver, Washington. And on a sun-splashed day in late September, tucked in a window seat of a charming 1913 home, they shared their first look. The pair wed during a heartfelt ceremony at Easton Broad, each walking down the aisle with colorful bouquets they handcrafted from dahlias and blooms growing in their garden. Family members and close friends were invited to participate in a handfasting ceremony, adding colorful rope by colorful rope—representing the LGBTQ+ community—around the couple’s joined hands until they were bound together in a rainbow. The officiant spoke of the special meaning behind each color as it was placed. Post-ceremony, Shelby and Z returned to their getting-ready spot for a private moment, where they exchanged vows on a porch swing, then clinked glasses over a charcuterie picnic. The evening continued in grand fashion with dinner, cake (complete with a sweet, silhouetted cake topper symbolizing the two and their cats) and toasts aplenty. The even sweeter finale? A sunset dance together in the streets of Portland.
