From the Bride, Dierdre:
“As exhausted medical residents in Upstate New York
(and yet still resistant to hiring a wedding planner for our Portland wedding),
Nathan and I needed a lot of help from our family and friends to pull off our
wedding week. For my bouquet, I knew I wanted succulents and feathers in
the midst of flowers and greens. To me and my family, feathers are a symbol of
my father, who passed away just a couple years before I met Nathan. My father
had always said, ‘When you find a feather, it is a sign from the universe to
pay attention, and to know that you are on the right path.’ When I was first
dating Nathan, he gave me a beautiful feather as a gift without knowing this
story. I knew that I was on the right path. Feathers have since become a symbol
for our relationship and the support that surrounds us. They can be found
throughout our wedding, including our wedding rings that were designed by Nathan. The
succulents used throughout our wedding were collected and hand-harvested from generous
friends of my mother-in-law in my husband's hometown of Grants Pass. The grand
succulent used in the bouquet is now replanted and sitting in my kitchen windowsill
and the feathers were redistributed in thank you gifts to the amazing women who
helped me on my wedding day and every day in my life.”
