What I love about this wedding is the balance of rustic Scottish inspiration with glamorous and vintage touches of romance. Historic-looking brick and a humble tavern make for understated yet well-suited backdrops, while a wild-looking bouquet, an on-trend plaid blanket scarf, and an overall windswept look anchor this stunning couple to earth. An asymmetrical metallic gown by Nature of Isa adds a healthy dose of drama, while a rich and vintage-looking tablescape stirs the imagination with ideas of old-world glamour.
From Allison Johansen of Nature of Isa:
"Elopements are personal, small and filled with the intimate details that make Scottish weddings so enchanting. On a high bluff in Portland, we captured this intimate exchange amongst huge stone walls, stark grassy hills and chilling wind that created a striking scene. The ceremony was set with gold and garlands and simple, delicate details of fur, stones and golden branches. During the ceremony as the bride, Emily and groom, Dustin huddled together in the wind, they partook in the sharing of the quiach. A small, metal, delicately ornamented cup representing the “cup of Life” and filled with whiskey, so as the couple shares the cup, they are sharing their life. For a modern twist, the bride wears the traditional plaid, but as wrap and the dress underneath is made of tiny silver beaded lace and silk. Her flowers created great pops of color and texture amongst the stark stone and the hints of blue in the plaid and head piece show off Emily’s blue eyes.
For the reception we headed to a warmer location filled with glass, whiskey, reds and plaids and a live band for the couple to warm up to. At the Highland Stillhouse in Oregon City, we continued with the intimate details, filling the room with copper sequins, freshly poached pears with chestnuts, and an intricately detailed white cake. Traditionally, Scottish weddings are filled with different reasons to drink whiskey, and thus highlighted are a few of our favorites, garnished with ferns and florals to bring the outdoors in. Leaving we highlighted the clothing, as the groom wore an original wool plaid jacket by Bad Wolf Clothier and the bride wore a shimmery sequin dress with a skirt made of flowing tulle."
