A close friendship can be an incredible foundation for a relationship—just ask Molly Murtaugh and Emma Jones, who knew each other for 14 years before realizing they were meant to be together. The couple kept that warm feeling in mind when wedding planning, opting for an intimate but elevated backyard barbeque aesthetic for their big day. They went for a casual and welcoming vibe, focused on personal touches and led by a team of local women-owned vendor companies. Breaking tradition, the pair got ready for the day together, laughing and reminiscing as they helped each other into their complementary gowns. Soon after, they stood beneath a lush floral arch bedecked in blush and cream blossoms. Emma’s birth mother officiated the ceremony and invited Emma’s adopted mother and Molly’s mom to wrap their daughters in a ceremonial blanket, honoring Emma’s Native American heritage. The celebration included cocktails topped with edible illustrations of the newlyweds’ dog, Sully, and an ice cream truck bearing dessert. Guests danced with Molly and Emma well into the night, even hopping on school buses to head to the after party.
