On this episode of Wedding Day Podcast, host by Sonja Babich, CEO of Iron Diamond Media, and Brooke Beise, publisher of Minnesota Bride, sit down with Rachelle Mazumdar, founder of Style-Architects Weddings & Events, and Anna Mazumdar, the company's lead wedding planner. Together, the mother-and-daughter-in-law team shared how thoughtful design, intentional planning and unforgettable guest experiences have shaped their award-winning Minnesota wedding planning business—and why an exciting new chapter is just around the corner.
Rachelle reflected on launching Style-Architects Weddings & Events after looking for a creative outlet while raising three boys, while Anna shared how helping with a New Year's Eve wedding more than a decade ago unexpectedly sparked her own career in weddings. The pair explained that every celebration begins by getting to know each couple personally, from their hobbies and home décor to the feeling they want guests to experience. Rather than recreating Pinterest inspiration, they use those conversations to create weddings that feel authentic and deeply personal. One of their guiding principles is avoiding what they call the "sea of the same" by layering different linens, centerpieces, chargers and decorative elements throughout a reception to create visual interest while maintaining a cohesive overall design.
The conversation also explored how guest experience influences every planning decision. Instead of focusing only on color palettes or floral selections, Style-Architects considers how guests will feel from the moment they arrive until the final dance. The planners discussed favoring an East Coast-inspired reception timeline that builds energy early with dancing before dinner and spaces out speeches and special moments throughout the evening. By eliminating long pauses and keeping guests engaged with intentional transitions, they create celebrations that feel dynamic from beginning to end.
As wedding trends continue to evolve, Rachelle and Anna shared that couples are embracing immersive experiences that extend well beyond traditional receptions. Elaborate after parties have become increasingly popular, while live artists, cultural performers, arcade games, espresso bars and interactive food displays all help create memorable moments for guests. They also discussed how food has become an experience in itself, with creative presentation and interactive catering displays adding another layer of entertainment that leaves a lasting impression.
When it comes to wedding design, the planners encouraged couples to prioritize impactful focal points over spreading décor evenly throughout a venue. Whether through dramatic hanging floral installations, statement ceremony backdrops or a stunning floral tunnel that guests walked through multiple times during one celebration, investing in one unforgettable design element often creates a stronger visual impact than smaller décor throughout the room. Brooke also highlighted Style-Architects' reputation for pairing bold creative ideas with exceptionally detailed timelines and logistics, allowing every design vision to come together seamlessly on the wedding day.
The episode concluded with a heartfelt announcement as Rachelle revealed she will retire later this year after 15 years in the wedding industry, officially passing the business to Anna. While acknowledging the emotional milestone, both women expressed excitement about continuing the Style-Architects legacy through a thoughtful transition built on years of mentorship and collaboration. Their conversation offered listeners an inside look at the creativity, intention and planning that define exceptional weddings while celebrating the next generation of leadership for one of Minnesota's most respected wedding planning companies.
