FARM TO TABLE: “We live a very urban life, but spend every second we can in nature,” says Summer, who, with her new husband Patrick, owns the event space Union/Pine in Southeast Portland. “Our dear friends offered to host us on their perfect Sauvie Island farm, so we built our layout around the wonderful features that they’ve created on their land.” The couple utilized views of the sheep pasture for the bar area; views of Mount St. Helens for their ceremony backdrop; and cocktail hour beside the farm sanctuary amid ducks, chickens, and rabbits. Guests stayed the night in rented Airstream trailers and canvas tents decked out with futons and cozy décor.
SENTIMENTALLY SPEAKING: “We brought in quite a few special details that made our day especially personal,” says Summer. “My floral bouquet was wrapped with the handkerchief that had been Patrick’s baby bonnet; my dad read a passage from my late grandfather’s bible; Patrick’s mom read the most beautiful Native American blessing; and my brilliant sister Drea baked our mind-blowing cake.”
INTO THE SUNSET: “There were so many amazing moments that it’s tough to choose a favorite,” says Summer. “But our first dance was pure magic. All of our guests huddled around us on the dance floor as our friend Emily played guitar and sang just as a light rain started. We will never forget it.”
