When a friend set Elaine Young and Joel Klobas up on a blind date at fabled Portland food festival, The Bite, sparks flew right away, and the couple have been inseparable ever since. Joel popped the question after two years of dating on a moonlight pier above Lake Tahoe on a summer sojourn. Inspired by the classic ornate font on antique carnival fliers, the couple threw a vintage-carnival-themed wedding, complete with a sleek hot rod, old-school popcorn machine and blown-up renderings of the fliers that started it all. Following their colorful celebration, the couple escaped for a two-week honeymoon to the Bahamas. They’ve since returned to their Parkrose, Portland, home with their pup, Kairo, where the bride works as a dental assistant and the groom in energy management.
