Don’t Stop The Music: Records as a Guest Book

For Jennifer Rodis, 37, and Sean Lagesen, 36, infusing their September 1 wedding at the Portland Art Museum with music meant more than picking out a few songs for the DJ to play. Every detail celebrated the best-friends-turned-newlyweds’ life that revolves around rock ’n’ roll, especially when it came to the guest book. Combing through the vinyl stacks at Portland’s Music Millennium and Everyday Music stores, Jennifer and Sean found a few dozen 45s of songs that made up the soundtrack of their life together, as well ones that reminded them of their formative years. Guests were invited to write messages and memories on the 45s, and Jennifer says she was overwhelmed by how seriously her guests took to the task. “Everyone spent a long time trying to find the right 45 to fit their memory of us,”  she recalls. “My brother was so happy he found a 45 by the Police, which was a concert I’d gone to with him.” Their collection of musical well-wishes will soon be displayed in an artful box frame in the living room of their Los Angeles home. “It really describes who we are.”
